“Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.” Matthew 15:26

In the fifteenth chapter of Matthew, we are taken to a time of great healing and miraculous wonders in history.  Jesus and His disciples were traveling from town to town, healing the sick, causing the lame to walk again, and preaching the gospel message.  It was an intense time and Jesus had developed an incredible reputation.  As He entered cities, mobs of people would approach begging for healing and deliverance.   The witness of Jesus’ ministry and power was spreading quickly.  As Jesus was once traveling, He was approached by a Canaanite woman. (Most Canaanite’s were notorious for believing in false gods, so her interest in Him is reason for us to pay attention.)  She must have become aware of exactly who He was, because in Matthew 15:22, she says to Him, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.”  Jesus’ lack of response to her plea is interesting; “But he answered her not a word.”

Friend, when you are burdened, do not take silence as a “no.” Take note of what the woman’s next steps were.   The Bible says she threw herself down at His feet, and cried, “Help me! Help me!”  Even when the disciples asked if they could send her away, she persevered.  When the burdens, strongholds and issues of life have you down, there must be a pursuit inside your soul that will not take no for an answer.  When you need a miracle, fall at the feet of Jesus, He has a reputation for healing.  When you have no other resources, keep calling out to Him, keep crying out to Him.

We later learn that the woman began to worship and praise Jesus (vs. 24.)  She was aware of what He was capable of.  She knew He could heal, cast out devils and cause the lame to walk.  The Bible is full of what Jesus can do for you, the question is, “Do you dare to ask Him to do it?”  We must, push through the doubt, persevere past the naysayers and persist to the end.

When you know what you need, go to the One who has the reputation for healing.

 Go after your healing!
