Something About the Name Jesus

Read Acts 4:13-18

Jesus came to this world for a purpose; to take the sins of the world and nail them to the cross. At that moment, He became a substitute offering, giving us access to God. After His crucifixion, they laid His body in a borrowed tomb. But, three days later, up from the grave He arose, defeating death! The name of Jesus is the most powerful name there is!

The resurrected Jesus told His disciples to go and wait in Jerusalem. So, they did, and about ten days later, on the day of Pentecost, a sound came from Heaven like a rush of mighty wind. It filled the house where the disciples were sitting, and cloven tongues of fire sat on each one of them. That’s when the Holy Ghost filled them and they began to speak in other tongues.

Because of this, the people in the city gathered around the upper room where the disciples were. Simon Peter took the opportunity and began to preach the Gospel. At the conclusion of his preaching, 3000 people came to the Lord for salvation. This supernatural occurring of God manifest in the Spirit turned the whole city upside down!

After the Day of Pentecost

A few weeks later, as John and Simon Peter made their way to the temple to pray, they came to a lame man lying outside. The man was paralyzed from the waist down. Everyone in Jerusalem knew who the lame man was because he’d been begging there for almost forty years.

As they passed, the man looked up to Simon Peter for money. Simon said, “I don’t have silver and gold, but I do have something better. In the name of Jesus, rise up and walk!” The power of God touched his body, and the paralysis was healed. He began to leap, jump and shout!

People came from everywhere to see if what they’d heard was true. Again, Simon Peter took this opportunity to begin preaching the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Bible says that 5000 men were saved that day. This actually meant that 5000 families came to the Lord, so over 20,000 people came to salvation because of this notable miracle!

The magistrates were furiously trying to stop this movement of using the name of Jesus. They began to threaten punishment for using it, praying in His name, healing in His name, or performing miracles in the name of Jesus.

There’s something about that name! Just saying the name of Jesus brings a consciousness of God. It brings a personal, intimate, loving, knowing, almighty God into today’s world, when you say, “Jesus.” I watched my mom cry out the name of Jesus as a child. I watched her pray healing for people and would see people healed! These are the kinds of testimonies that carry you through your entire life, when you can’t deny the power of the name of Jesus!

Don’t let another year fly by without using the name of Jesus! Call on His name! There is power in His name!

We’re always praying for you, and we love y’all. We’re saving you a seat at Community Family Church!
