“Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt REVIVE me:                                                                                                                                        thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and thy right hand shall save me.” Psalm 138:7

In this day and age, churches around the world preach the need for revival on a weekly basis.  But do we really know how to experience true revival?  We can learn a great deal from a very young king who deeply sought the Lord from the beginning of his reign at the tender age of 8 years old, and experienced a great revival during his leadership.    In 2 Kings, Chapter 22 young King Josiah did three very important things to revive his broken kingdom, and they are great lessons for us today:

  1. Seek the Lord  Revival will not be found in grand church services filled with activity and worship music.  Those are wonderful in and of themselves, but we will only experience true revival when we seek the Lord with all of our heart, soul, and mind.
  2. Purge our lives  Josiah realized the sin that was in the land and directed his men to purge all the idols in the land.   Not only were the images purged, King Josiah’s instructions were to pulvarize the idols until the only thing left was a pile of dust.  Sometimes we need to do more than remove things from our homes, they must be destroyed in order to experience true revival.
  3. Activate our Worship Our lives need to be built around Jesus, not the other way around.  Josiah rebuilt the temple in the middle of the city.  This was symbolic of God being at the center of everything.  God must be at the center of everything we do in order for us to experience true revival.

True revival is possible in our world today.  But only when we seek the Lord with all that is in us, purge our lives of the things that are not of God, activate our worship.

“Dear God, your church is passionately seeking you.  Purge us of things that aren’t of you.  Activate our worship and Revive Us Again!”

As always, we’re saving you a seat at Community Family Church
