“Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound!
They walk, O Lord, in the light of Your countenance.” Psalm 89:15
There is great significance in Psalm 89:15. It was the Psalm that the Israelites would sing to introduce the Feast of Trumpets every year. The Feast of Trumpets marked the beginning of ten days of consecration and repentance before God. It is one of seven Jewish feasts appointed by the LORD and one of three feasts that occur in the autumn. The Feast of Trumpets foreshadowed certain aspects of the ministry of Jesus Christ. The prophets linked the blowing of trumpets during feast time to the future Day of Judgment: “Blow the trumpet in Zion; sound the alarm on my holy hill. Let all who live in the land tremble, for the day of the LORD is coming. It is close at hand” (Joel 2:1; see also Zephaniah 1:14, 16).
In the New Testament, we see that the Lord’s Second Coming will be accompanied by the sound of a trumpet as well (1 Corinthians 15:51-52; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17). Each of the judgments in Revelation 8-9 is also signaled by a trumpet. Just as the sound of the shofar during the Feast of Trumpets called the Jewish nation to turn their attention to the Lord and ready themselves for the Day of Atonement, so will the “trump of God” call us to heaven and warn the world of coming judgment.
It is no secret that we are living in the last days and preparing ourselves for the second coming of Christ. Yet, it is my belief that before that glorious second coming, God has great and mighty plans to gather His people together here on this Earth, and there will be a supernatural release of His favor and power over every area of their lives. The question is, “Will you recognize that joyful sound?” In order to experience the great outpouring of blessing, you must recognize the joyful sound of the Lord. The Psalmist says, “Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound!” Friend, now more than ever we must diligently seek Christ and study His Word, so that we recognize His voice and ready ourselves for His plans.
As you enter this holiday season, pray for wisdom and discernment, ask God to help you recognize the “joyful sound,” so that you and your family will be able to walk in the “light of His glorious countenance.”
Something BIG is coming. I do believe I hear the sounds of trumpets in the distance…do you?
