During the height of World War II, amidst the fear, anxiety, and unknown outcomes of war, a comforting hymn was written. Ruth Caye Jones, a busy housewife and mother of a soldier fighting for the freedoms we sometimes take for granted today, felt a direct inspiration from the Holy Spirit. She stopped her daily chores to quickly put down both words and music, just as they were given to her by God. Since that day, this precious hymn has been a blessing to countless Christians at special times of need. It has brought comfort during illness, encouraged and challenged Christian workers, and has drawn many to salvation. I believe you will find this old hymn just as powerful and relevant today, as it was for Christians all those years ago, for we are living “In Times Like These:”
In Times Like These
In times like these, you need a Savior, In times like these, you need an anchor;
Be very sure, be very sure, Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!
The Rock is Jesus, Yes, He’s the One, The Rock is Jesus, The only One
Be very sure, be very sure, Your anchor holds, And grips the Solid Rock.
In times like these, you need the Bible, In times like these, O be not idle!
Be very sure, be very sure, Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock.
Friend, in times like these, the only way to walk in the truth is to walk by the Word of God. We need to pray without ceasing. Pray for your community leaders. God has the power to influence the decisions of the law makers in authority in your very community. But He will only do so, if we begin to pray urgently for His intervention. God is all powerful, but he is also a gentleman. He will not intervene, where He is not wanted. Now, it is also more important than ever, that we know who is preaching to us and from what authority they preach. There are many “wolves in sheep’s clothing” in our pulpits today. Pray for wisdom and discernment. And finally, always be ready to encourage one another to draw closer to God, for in His Word we are told, “Draw near to Him, and He will draw near to you.” Through steadfast prayer, seeking wisdom, and lifting up your brothers and sisters in Christ you will be able to boldly proclaim,
In times like these, I have a Savior, In times like these, I have an anchor,
I’m very sure, I’m very sure, My anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock.
Today, I encourage you to seek the wisdom of God, by immersing yourself in His Word. Trust me friend, if you ask for His wisdom, He will provide it readily and graciously!
We love y’all
And, we’re saving you a seat at Community Family Church
