“Let it be to me according to your word.” Luke 1:38
I am always in awe as I read the story of the birth of Jesus. Each time I read in Luke 1, the announcement to Mary, her response continues to overwhelm me. What incredible humility and obedience it must have taken her to say yes to such an overwhelming endeavor. Mary was a simple woman with a humble background, yet God chose her to bear His son, and trusted her to rear him up in the way he should go, for thirty-three years here on this Earth. Mary had not perfected motherhood before being given the task of raising Jesus, he was her first-born. Mary held one unique trait; she believed. She believed God was who He said He was. She believed God would do what He said He would do. And, she believed that if He called on her to do something, through Him she could accomplish the task. Her response to the angel shows her level of faith, “Let it be to me according to your word.” Luke 1:38 What would our lives be like if our response to God was the same as Mary’s? “Let it be unto me according to your word, Lord.” How different life might look. Luke 1:45 tells the outcome for Mary as a result of her obedience and belief, “Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord.” Because of her uncompromising belief, a blessing was poured out from heaven, prophecies were fulfilled and now you and I have a Savior forevermore! As the new year approaches, won’t you consider Mary’s response as God urges you to move forward in your walk with Him. Prayerfully ask him to help you respond as Mary did so many years ago, “Let it be to me according to your will.”
And watch as His blessings and promises are poured out on your life!
